Feb 11, 2004 - New on the market: Special motor oils from Fuchs for diesel engines with particulate filters
Customised Engine Oil Technology
Mannheim, February 11, 2004. Fuchs Petrolub AG, the world-wide leading independent lubricant specialist, has added two new special engine oils for diesel engines with particulate filters to its range. The so-called LOW SAPS oils are particularly low in pollutants and considerably increase the service life of particulate filters. Both motor oils make a major contribution to meeting the Euro 4 emissions standard. Unique the world over, these oils are zinc-free! Titan GT 1 SAE 5W-30 for passenger cars was developed in co-operation with DaimlerChrysler and Titan Cargo Maxx SAE 5W-30 for commercial vehicles together with MAN.
The Euro 4 emissions standard which will come into force at the beginning of 2005 and in particular specifies a considerable reduction of the soot emission, as well as the public debate about the health risks from soot particulates are already having an effect: more and more car manufacturers are equipping their diesel engines with particulate filters. In addition to sulphur free fuel, to attain longer service lives for the filter systems and to maintain the Euro 4 thresholds, vehicles also require motor oils with an extremely low pollutant count. Fuchs has developed two products which meet these demands, Titan GT 1 SAE 5W-30 for car engines and Titan Cargo Maxx SAE 5W-30 for commercial vehicle engines.
Fuchs’ development goal was to use products causing as little pollution as possible, and to attain it Fuchs took a totally new approach when developing Titan GT 1 SAE 5W-30 and Titan Cargo Maxx SAE 5W-30. By using special components and a completely new lubrication oil technology, geared at particularly low emissions, the most important additives used in conventional engine oils, i.e. pollutants such as sulphate ash, phosphor and sulphur could be drastically reduced. These products really do live up to their name LOW SAPS motor oils (SAPS: sulphate ash, phosphor, sulphur). And an added bonus with the new additive technology is that there is no need for zinc and heavy metals.
The low level of evaporation loss reduces oil consumption with Titan GT 1 SAE 5W-30 compared with other synthetic engine oils by up to 23%, and when using Titan Cargo Maxx by around 40%. Inner friction has also been reduced enabling fuel savings of up to 3%.
Titan GT 1 SAE-5W-30 meets the demands of the German car manufacturers such as DaimlerChrysler’s MB sheet 229.31 and Titan Cargo Maxx SAE 5W-30 those of the commercial vehicle manufacturers such as MAN’s M 3477 standard.
