Quenching Oils

Print

Heat treatment involves subjecting metal components to exactly defined temperature-time cycles to optimally match hardness, tensile strength, toughness and wear resistance to specific demands. Quenching, annealing, tempering and heat treatment in general change the entire molecular structure of a component whereas case hardening or nitriting just chemically influence the structure of the component's surface.

Depending on the material and specification, quenching media can include water, polymer solutions, salt solutions, mineral oils, synthetic oils, molten salts and also gases. The generally much too abrupt quenching provided by water and the resulting danger of cracking, results in mineral oils, synthetic oil or polymer solutions being used. The technical characteristics of these quenching media are principally defined by properties such as

  • Thermal stability

  • Cooling capacity

  • Maximum quenching speed and

  • Vapour phase collapse.

  • The key advantages offered by THERMISOL products are excellent heat treatment precision provided by the rapid collapse of the vapour phase and the correspondingly even cooling characteristics. This effectively eliminates the problems of hairline cracking and warping.

  • The economy of THERMISOL Quenching Oils is highlighted by their excellent resistance to ageing, outstandingly low evaporation and thus long service life.

  • The global availability of THERMISOL products, along with expert technical advice and a state-of-the-art condition monitoring service guarantee excellent heat treatment results.
