MotoGP 2004: The Fuchs Kawasaki team confronting the competition

Mannheim, 31 March 2004. The premium class of motorcycle racing, the MotoGP World Championship, is gearing up again (18 April – 31 October)! 22 drivers from eight nations will be competing for the title on seven different motorcycle makes in 16 races. Performance levels are extremely close and often the winner is decided on the basis of a few split seconds. Just having a powerful engine is not enough, perfection from start to finish is required – and this begins with the motorcycle engine oil. The Kawasaki team relies on the expertise of the world’s largest independent lubricant specialist - Fuchs.

Fuchs has already been supporting the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer for five years now in various races as a development partner and supplier. Since the 2003 season it has also been involved in the motorcycle racing equivalent to Formula 1 - the MotoGP class. After turning a few heads last season, this season’s goal is to confront the competition.

“We are really moving up into the offensive now. We have the potential to join the top teams in the championship!”, reported team boss Harald Eckl. Gerd Martin, head of the motorcycle lubricants product management division at Fuchs, is also confident: “Our goal is to regularly be among the top ten with the new Ninja ZX-RR. A place on the podium is also possible.” These ambitious goals are far from unfounded, after all: the overall package has been considerably improved. Fuchs’ contribution: a new race oil.

Performance counts and this in turn places demands on the engine oil: it has to have an extremely low viscosity and at the same ensure optimal protection against wear – and all that at speeds above 18,000 rpm and a full throttle share of 75 to 85%! In close co-operation with the Kawasaki team under team manager Harald Eckl, the experts from Fuchs developed a synthetic ester oil combining a unique base oil formula and a special package of additives: this so-called Electrosyntec® technology ensures top power in all speed ranges and entices extra performance from the engine.
How does this work? Due to electrostatic forces the Electrosyntec® molecules adhere to the metal surfaces of pistons and cylinders forming a perfect protective coating effectively reducing friction and wear in the engine.

The experience which Fuchs gains in racing flows into the development of lubricants for motorcyclists on the road. The result is high performance two-wheel engine oils just like the new Silkolene Pro 4 Plus 5W 40 with Electrosyntec® technology. This oil for ambitious riders directly derived from the MotoGP race oil increases engine power by 4 to 5 hp – enough said!
